A B O U T

Born in Oulu, Northern Finland, Heta Okkonen works as a free animation artist in Berlin and Helsinki. With the support of the Finnish Film Foundation she’s currently writing Ecce Homo Drive, an animated short about female libido and it’s travels.
End of 2024 Okkonen attended a four month recidency in FVV/Open Workshop developing new animated short Red/Black, funded by the Finnish Film Foundation. The production will start end of 2025.
First half of 2024 Okkonen spent working on 2Emotional, a drawn animated projection piece for public spaces. The work is funded by Kone Foundation. The piece will premiere in 2026.
Okkonen studied animation in Turku Arts Academy and Aalto University, graduating Master of Arts at the end of 2023. Her graduation film HeadRest premiered in Turku Animated Film Festival, TAFF, in August 2024 and is currently screened in International Festivals.
On her free time Okkonen enjoys bike rides and spending time by water. She has recently gotten into tufting and it’s very exciting. Summer 2025 she had her first tufting exhibition in Turku, Finland.
